It is a subject of intense scrutiny and is often kept secret behind a wall of shame and/or embarrassment. There is much confusion about money and wealth and it takes concerted effort and reflection to find peace with money and finances. This is where coaching comes in. A coach who understands how to work with their client to change their attitudes and ways of thinking about money can lead their client to a place of financial wellbeing.
You do not have to be an expert on finances to be an excellent coach on financial well-being. There are already many financial experts that you can refer your clients to depending on their situation.
I believe that we need to first explore our own issues and attitudes on money and financial well-being before we are fully able to coach others on theirs. We want to use money as a way of expressing our core values, as opposed to being a factor in determining our value. After you become somewhat comfortable navigating the sometimes-sticky issues of your own finances, will you be better able to hold space for your client when they work on theirs.
